Attractions
-
Yellow Balau
The wood was imported to Singapore for treatment before being shipped to Zhujiin, China, where it was chopped into the various forms required.
-
Columns
Because of Singapore’s rainy and humid tropical climate, it was determined that the weight-bearing columns would be cast in concrete first, then encased in wood.
-
Rafter Caps
Below the ceiling, bronze caps with a lotus design were inserted at the ends of the round and square rafters.
-
Doors
To further stiffen the door, numerous layers of plaster and linen were applied.
-
Roof tiles
The mountain gate’s roof is made of handcrafted traditional Japanese roof tiles from Ishino Tiles Production Pte. Ltd. in Nara, Japan.
-
Roof ornaments
The mountain gate’s roof is adorned with a pair of classic Tang gilded bronze roof ornaments (dragons), which contrast with the fine grey roof.
-
Musical wind chime
Every corner of the roof is adorned with an old distinctive melodious wind chime. The chimes deter birds while adding color to the shrine.
