  3. Reason for travel (type of visa needed).

There are numerous types of visas for Luxembourg, which are valid for travel for specific purposes and times.

Luxembourg Visa Types:

In general, Luxembourg visas can be divided into two main categories:

  1. Short-stay visas
  2. Long-stay visas

Based on the purpose of travel Visa types can be classified as,

  1. Tourist Visa-For tourism, visiting family and friends. No business activity, or work is allowed.
  2. Business Visa-For attending business meetings or discussions. No remunerative activity can be conducted.
  3. Transit/Connecting Visa-For connecting air travel through a country that is not the final destination.

  • Applicants for short-stay visas to Luxembourg are advised to submit their application a minimum of 14 days before their intended trip.
  • And while applying well in advance is recommended, applying too early (i.e. over six months before departure) is discouraged.
  •  One should apply for their long-term visa not more than 90 days after receiving their authorization of stay (a pre-requisite for D visa applicants).
