Role of the police in Singapore
- The Police Officer conducts criminal investigations, gang investigations, computer fraud detection, and community policing.
- For criminal investigations, the Police Officer analyses evidence and educates the public on crime prevention.
- They are also in charge of a coast guard patrol boat and develop crime-fighting plans.
- A police officer’s job is not only fighting crime but also protecting the defenseless.
- Day-to-day incident command and control.
- Keeping the public transportation system safe.
- security during major national events and protection of vital installations.
- VIP/foreign dignitaries’ security and protection.
- Responsible for upholding the law and safeguarding the country’s peace and order.
Qualification/Eligibility
- Education qualification also includes Diplomas; GCE ‘A’ Level certificates; Higher NITEC or NITEC certificates; and GCE ‘O’ Level certificates (at least 5 credits).
- For Direct-Entry Sergeant: Minimally 5 GCE ‘O’ Level Credits*
- For Direct-Entry Inspector: A Pass Degree in any discipline.

Training
Direct entry inspector
Training: It’s a 9-month residential training program. Police defense tactics, physical training, criminal law lectures, and leadership development will all be covered in a well-structured program.
It includes leadership training, which will be an international component, and learning about criminal investigations. Your professional path will be well-defined, preparing you for future command positions.

Direct entry sergeant
The first six months of your career will be spent in a residential training program. A well-structured curriculum will be followed, which will cover police defense techniques, physical training, criminal law studies, and training to prepare you to be a Ground Response Force officer.
