Cross-Border Taxis Can Now Drop You Anywhere in Singapore and Johor Bahru

Cross-border taxis Singapore and Johor Bahru

Travel between Singapore and Johor Bahru just became far more convenient. Starting May 2026, cross-border taxis are now officially allowed to drop passengers off anywhere in Singapore and selected areas across Johor, making trips smoother and more direct than ever before.

Previously, travelers using cross-border taxis had to stop at fixed terminals such as Ban San Street Terminal in Singapore or Larkin Sentral in Johor before arranging separate transport to reach their final destination. With the new rules in place, passengers can now enjoy door-to-door drop-offs, reducing travel time and eliminating the hassle of multiple transfers.

What has Changed for Cross-Border Taxi Services?

The biggest update is the flexibility in drop-off locations. Licensed cross-border taxis can now send passengers directly to destinations across Singapore and major Johor regions, including:

  • Johor Bahru
  • Iskandar Puteri
  • Forest City
  • Kulai
  • Senai

This move is part of a joint effort by the Singapore and Malaysian transport authorities to improve connectivity and reduce dependence on illegal cross-border ride services.

Pick-Ups still Limited to Approved Locations

While drop-offs are now more flexible, pick-ups remain regulated.

In Singapore, Malaysian taxis can only pick up passengers from designated locations such as:

Meanwhile, Singapore taxis operating in Malaysia can pick up passengers from:

  • Larkin Sentral
  • Toppen Shopping Centre
  • Mid Valley Southkey
  • Angsana Mall

Authorities say these restrictions help protect domestic transport systems while still offering better travel convenience.

Grab Officially Licensed for Cross-Border Rides

Another major development is the official licensing of cross-border ride-hailing services. Currently, Grab
is the first approved operator offering legal app-based cross-border taxi bookings between Singapore and Johor.

Passengers can now pre-book rides directly through the Grab app under a proper licensed framework, making cross-border travel more reliable and secure.

Updated Taxi Fares for Singapore–JB Trips

The revised fare structure now includes several vehicle categories:

Standard four-seater S$80 or RM240
Six-seater S$120
Premium vehicles S$180

Additional charges apply for destinations located beyond 35km from the designated zones.

Authorities also announced plans to increase the quota of licensed cross-border taxis from 200 to 300 vehicles per side initially, with future expansion to 500 taxis each. Larger vehicles are also being introduced to better accommodate families, groups, and business travelers.

Drop-offs beyond 35km require top-ups starting at S$20 for four-seaters and S$30 for six-seaters and premium vehicles.

Cross-border taxi quotas in both Singapore and Malaysia will increase by 100 vehicles each, raising the total to 300 taxis per side.

Authorities also plan to further expand the quota to 500 vehicles each in the future.

Larger taxis and multi-passenger vehicles are being introduced to better accommodate families, tourist groups, and business travellers.

A Big Boost for Singapore–Malaysia Connectivity

The updated taxi system is expected to significantly improve travel convenience for commuters, tourists, and frequent travelers moving between Singapore and Johor. The new rules arrive ahead of the highly anticipated Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System project, which is scheduled to begin operations in 2027.

With easier drop-offs, licensed ride-hailing, and expanded taxi quotas, cross-border travel between Singapore and Malaysia is entering a more modern and passenger-friendly era.
